FAQ
What is houPantry?
A visual library for reusable Houdini procedural setups ("Recipes"). There's a website and a Houdini plugin — browse, preview, and import a setup into your scene in a couple of clicks, no manual file wrangling.
What's a Recipe vs. a Pastry?
A Recipe is a permanent entry in the library — a Houdini node network plus title, description, category, tags, and a thumbnail. A Pastry (e.g. pastry-7K4F9X2M) is a temporary, shareable key for sending a setup to someone directly — not a URL, not permanent. Pastries expire (currently around 30 days).
What Houdini version(s) are supported?
H21 is tested; H22 should work in theory but hasn't been verified yet.
Is it free?
Yes.
Where's my data stored?
Recipes can be local - stored on your computer and online - on our server. If the Recipe is online you can choose for it to be Private or Public. houPantry's value is the visual organization, discovery, and community layer, not necessarily being a cloud storage. Though you are encouraged to share your Recipes with other people through the platform.
How long do Pastries last?
Roughly 30 days, then they're removed. Pastries aren't meant as permanent storage — publish a Recipe if you want something to stick around.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Once you're approved for the alpha, you'll get access to our Discord — bug reports, feature requests, and general feedback each have their own channel there.
Can I publish my own Recipes?
Yes — sign in via the Houdini plugin and use its Publish action to add a Recipe to the library. Publishing happens from inside Houdini, not from this website, since a Recipe is captured directly from your node graph.
I found a security issue — where do I report it?
Please contact us directly rather than filing a public report.
Roadmap
A rough, evolving list of what's being considered next.
- Copy/Paste a Pastry directly from the right-click menu in Houdini
- Custom preview images for a Recipe, instead of only an auto-captured viewport shot
- Animated (video) previews for Recipes
- Ratings, likes, and save counts on the browse page
- Richer discovery: trending tags, more categories as the library grows
- Verified publishers and/or invite-only publishing, as the community grows past the alpha
